Rector's Message
St. Thomas Church is a small, vibrant congregation. We are clear about our mission to be a caring and compassionate place.
We worship together in the Episcopal tradition, which means that our worship has formal structures, with our chief act of worship being the Lord’s Supper. All baptized people are welcome to receive bread and wine. We use a hymnal and have a choir and organist who provide considerable variety. Newcomers are always welcome. After worship, we have a coffee and refreshment time in the parish hall. Some people “dress up” but most dress informally.
Hospitality characterizes our outreach. We provide food for those who need it by giving from our frozen food supply, through our food bank that serves monthly, and by working with Family Promise, to feed homeless families with children at Fountain City Methodist Church.
In addition to food ministries, we hold a monthly meeting for those who work at the Sunshine Industries. Bridge Refugee Services holds a weekly after school tutoring program here, two AA groups and two Girl Scout troops meet weekly, and Wild Thyme Theater Group rehearses in our parish hall. When you visit, we will welcome you, provide a service leaflet that shows what hymn numbers we are using, and what page in the Book of Common Prayer to use. If you are looking for a church home, please come and be with us.
